When we listen to our hearts, we live with passion and purpose. We feel a sense of alignment with our soul’s journey. We realize that full self-expression is greater than the job we do, the roles we play, or how successful we are in the world. Instead, full self-expression is being on purpose in every moment no matter what we are doing, where we are, or who we are with.
Individuals who have shared such energy know that nothing is more important than engaging in something with those you love. Meraki is a Greek word often used to describe what happens when you leave your energetic signature—your soul, creativity, or love in your work. It inspires having a passion for what you do every day, and feeling connected with everyone who shares the experience with you. This energetic exchange of love is key to nurturing your creativity, fostering your spiritual growth, and enhancing your life. When you enjoy doing something that you put your heart and soul into, love and joy follows. Share on X Above all, the gracious being of your soul shines through and it manifests as love into the world.
In his commencement address at Stanford University in 2005, Steve Jobs, the creative visionary and founder of Apple, Inc., succinctly described being purposeful in the moment when he challenged students to ask themselves: If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I’m about to do today?” When our answer to this question is yes, we know we are listening to the guidance of our hearts and making choices that align with it. If we answer no, we must examine our choices and ask ourselves why we are not aligned with our soul’s journey.
In Japan, having such purpose is called ikigai, meaning “the reason we get up in the morning.” Share on XAlthough we have many mind-sets dictating what we should do, knowing our reason to get up in the morning derives from connecting with the spiritual information coming through our hearts. Often we are so afraid we will make a mistake, displease someone, or lose what we have that we avoid listening to the guidance of our hearts and instead drift aimlessly through life without a compass. Listening to the guidance of our hearts and receiving spiritual information to live purposefully takes ab-soul-lute trust in ourselves, and a desire to be in sync with our soul’s journey.
Here are 5 Ways to Live with Passion and Purpose:
1) Begin each day in gratitude. Acknowledge that you are alive and on purpose just by choosing to be here on Earth at this time. Being on purpose is expressed through an underlying knowing that you are here on your soul’s journey no matter what it looks like at the time.
2) Take at least 5 minutes every day to bring in more peace, joy, and positive energy. Close your eyes, open your heart and ask yourself: “Why am I are here?” Visualize yourself walking through life happy, enthused, and fully alive. What does this look and feel like?
3) Reflect on what inspires you to get out of bed every morning.” Be aware of the daily experiences that inspire you, create joy or make your heart sing. Notice the elements that run through these experiences and let them guide the choices you make.
4) Consider that you could give up anything in your life, what would you let go immediately? What would you want to hold onto to? Letting go of what we don’t want, opens the space for what we do want.
5) Give yourself permission to follow your heart in some new way. Let go of something that no longer serves you, and choose something more appropriate to your current life.
You have a soul purpose, not a sole purpose and that is to live every moment expressing the light of your being. Share on X Your soul’s purpose isn’t defined or limited by finding the one reason you are here. On the contrary, it encompasses a multitude of passions that inspire purposeful living. Be love, make your dreams a reality and assist others to do the same and you will stay on course and create the life you want.

Absolutely love this question: “Consider that you could give up anything in your life, what would you let go immediately?” Wow! If one listens to the answer it has the potential to be life-changing! Thank you for the reminder of how simple practices, diligently repeated, creates a pathway of purpose and presence. xo
Thank you Melissa for focusing on that question as it really helps us get clear as to what makes our heart sing. Blessings and love
I love this inspiring article Debra and the self-nurturing practices you encourage to connect deeply to our soul’s purpose. I am so grateful to learn the words meraki and ikigai and want to embody their essence! Thank you for the wonderful questions and the reminder of the need to let go – the focus of my blog this week.
Thank you Kelley for your insightful comment and for sharing your passion and purpose through your practice blog and most of you! Blessings and love
I love this statement: “Your soul’s purpose isn’t defined or limited by finding the one reason you are here. On the contrary, it encompasses a multitude of passions that inspire purposeful living.” So many people are advising us that we have to find our purpose, as if there’s only one inside of us! But you allow for us to have more than one passion that lights us up and adds meaning to our life. Great tips too! I practice gratitude on a daily basis!
Yes Tae that is exactly why I wrote that statement so we take the pressure off ourselves to find “the one” true purpose. It’s truly about living life on purpose in every moment. Blessings and love
Thank you for reminding me of this question: If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I’m about to do today?
That’s a good one to ask, early and often.
I also am resonating with the question about letting go. Thanks for provoking these thoughts in me.
Blessings!
I love that question from Steve Jobs. Always makes me pause and reflect….Blessings and love
Perfect timing for me today. I smiled the whole time I was reading… I especially liked “you have a soul purpose not a sole purpose.” <3
Knowing that you are smiling makes me smile too Andrea…Blessings and love
Sometimes I hear my soul giggle at me (and with me). I’ve never felt more aligned, more ready than I do right now. I feel like I’m in the vortex of HUGE energy and all systems are GO. My soul agrees. My guides and angels agree (or so I’ve been told.) I’m READY.
You are in a huge vortex of energy and all systems are go…and look at you go girl! You are definitely living with passion and purpose. Blessings and love
Thanks for the mindful tip.
