“The best, most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched. They must be felt with the heart.” – Helen Keller
Like a spiritual GPS, conscious awareness is our ability to tune in to spiritual information that expands our understanding of ourselves and provides us with a broader perspective from which to navigate our lives. Using conscious awareness, we can access a greater wealth of information to support our spiritual growth. In doing so, we must see with the eyes of our heart. This shifts us from viewing life simply in physical terms to seeing why things happen from an expanded, more spiritual perspective.
Using conscious awareness can feel like flying in an airplane and viewing the myriad of details on the ground below. This lift of our spirit creates a perspective for us that takes in the circumstances of our lives from three hundred and sixty degrees. As such, we can begin to move outside of whatever is happening in our lives so we can assess situations with healthy detachment. Every experience we have, no matter how trivial-a surly driver who cuts us off in traffic, a waiter who will not look our way, the unexpected loss of a close relationship, or a surprise rainstorm that drenches us to the bone-can then be viewed through this spiritual perspective as something wonderful, humorous, or simply an opportunity to learn more about ourselves.
You may have experienced conscious awareness as a feeling of “aha” or as a moment of sudden clarity when everything comes into focus as if through a telescope. To more actively access conscious awareness, you can continually scan and absorb information with your senses. As you become more open, your sensory perceptions become clearer and you become more receptive to spiritual clues. You know this when you feel a rush of energy that makes your hair stand on end, gives you goose bumps, causes you to feel a tingling sensation, a buzzing, or simply a warming or subtle tension in parts of your body. You may have even acknowledges these experiences with comments such as “I can sense it in my body,” “I can feel it in my bones,” or “The answer is right on the tip of my tongue.”
From this inspired vantage point, we are free to float in the space of all possibilities without being attached to any particular outcome and thus able to make enlightened choices capable of transforming our lives. Although seeing your life from such a perspective may be initially disorienting because it shifts your perception of things, using conscious awareness is actually an innate skill requiring only minimal practice.
