You may feel overwhelmed by anxiety, especially during these intense, uncertain, and turbulent times. You are not alone. You may feel on edge, more agitated than usual, and your sense of security faltering. All you have to do is turn on the news and you will notice how deeply affected you are by what’s happening in the world. Because of this energetic intensity, you may be feeling more anxious, overwhelmed, and unsettled than you normally do.
Here’s the good news! This is actually an intense period of self-healing, self-discovery, personal and global transformation. Maintaining balance and inner peace is challenging for all of us right now as we navigate the rough seas of this intense shift in human consciousness.
What do you do when this panic threatens your inner peace? Whenever you feel fear, anxiety, even panic, your energy tends to collect around the top of your head which can feel like you’re detached from the rest of your body. This sudden rush of energy to your head may lead to feeling unsteady, dizzy, or ungrounded. When you’re ungrounded, you can feel disoriented, discombobulated, or even experience your surroundings as surreal. You may feel as if the physical grids of the earth are shirting beneath your feet.
One of my anxiety-soothing strategies to assist you in these moments is to Physically Ground Your Energies. This grounding practice helps you to tap into your physical body during times of anxiety, fear, or panic. It allows you to direct your energy down through your body from the top of your head to your feet to calm, center, and rebalance your energies.
Grounding Exercise:
Sit or stand in a comfortable place and gently close your eyes. Take a few deep intentional breaths, inhaling life force energy and exhaling any tension or anxiety. Slowing down and deepening your breath draws more oxygen into your body which reduces anxiety and restores balance to your nervous system.
Begin at the top of your head and direct your energy down through your entire body to your feet. Focus on how your feet feel against the floor or ground. Once you have focused your attention here, tap your feet on the ground until you really feet the energy here. Now visualize your energy going down into the earth beneath your feet as if you were rooting into the ground. Stay here and focus on detoxing your energies into the ground. Open your eyes, how do you feel?
Repeat this as many times as you need until you feel your energies grounded into the earth. And, doing this outside in nature on grass or moss enhances the grounding and calming effect. This is a great way to rebalance and redistribute your energies and you can do it with your eyes open or closed or while sitting or moving. Practice this grounding exercise even when you feel calm and centered so that you become stronger with it.
You also ground your energies by touching the steering wheel before you drive away in your car, carry your favorite gemstone in your pocket, or take deep intentional breaths at every natural pause in your day. A regular grounding practice can help you remain calm when you find yourself in anxiety-producing situations.
