Living with passion and purpose is key to creating the life we want and drawing spiritual meaning from it. It even helps us live a longer and healthier life. Yet, for many of us, life’s most persistent and urgent question, “What is my passion and purpose?” eludes us. Discovering our passion and purpose can be an overwhelming, often confusing and even daunting process. Because we have so many mindsets that dictate what we should do, it makes it difficult to discover what truly aligns with our heart. We are so afraid we’ll make a mistake, or lose what we already have that we avoid taking time with ourselves to find the answers. And, we wonder why we seem to drift aimlessly through life without a direction or anchor.
Living with passion and purpose begins with listening to and following our heart. When we lead with our heart, we express the light of our being. We feel a sense of ease, trust and alignment with a higher calling. As human beings, we are more accustomed to “doing” more than “being.” However, expressing our true being is not the job we do, the roles we play, how successful we are or even our long-term goals. It’s embodying love, exuding joy, and creating a flow of light energy that inspires conscious, deliberate and purposeful choices. This is “being on purpose” in every moment no matter what we are doing, where we are, or whom we are with.
The creative visionary and founder of Apple, Inc., Steve Jobs speaks to being on purpose when he states, “If today were the last day of my life would I want to do what I’m about to do today.” When you can answer this question with a resounding “Yes,” you know you are making a choice that aligns with your heart. If the question brings you to pause or shake your head “No,” then you need to step back, examine your choices and begin to choose differently. Living with passion and purpose requires that every thought, feeling and choice be positive and in alignment with your soul’s journey.
Here are some suggestions to living with passion and purpose:
1) Begin each day in gratitude. Acknowledge that you are alive and on purpose just by choosing to be here on Earth at this time. Being on purpose is expressed through an underlying knowing that you are here on your soul’s journey no matter what it looks like.
2) Take at least 5 minutes every day to bring in more peace, joy, and positive energy. Close you eyes, open your heart and ask yourself: “Why am I are here?” Visualize yourself walking through life happy, enthused and fully alive. What does this look and feel like?
3) Become aware of the daily experiences that inspire you, create overwhelming joy or make your heart sing. What makes you want to get out of bed in the morning? Notice the elements that run through these experiences and let them guide the choices you make.
4) Consider that you could give up anything in your life, what would you let go immediately? What would you want to hold onto to? Letting go of what we don’t want, opens the space for what we do want.
You have a soul purpose, not a sole purpose and that is to live every moment expressing the light of your being. Your soul’s purpose isn’t defined or limited by finding the one reason you are here. On the contrary, it encompasses a multitude of passions that inspire purposeful living as a meditation through life. Be love, make your dreams a reality and assist others to do the same and you will stay on course and create the life you want.
