“There is a vitality, a life force, an energy, a quickening that is translated through you into action, and because there is only one of you in all time, this expression is unique. And if you block it, it will never exist through any other medium and will be lost.” – Martha Graham
How do you sustain the positive energy, optimism, and excitement for the future of yourself and your world? How do you wake up each morning with a sense of hope, purpose, and anticipation for what’s in front of you? And, how do you hold steady, move with ease, and remain true to yourself, sustaining a constant flow of your energies?
First, you have to trust that you are the source and co-creator of the inner and outer landscape of your life and be accountable for it. The quality of your life is determined by the choices you make every moment. These choices may be to bless someone who cuts in front of you on your way to work, acknowledge each and every individual that passes by you, and choose thoughts, words, and actions that express patience, tolerance, and an open and loving heart. What goes around does come around. So, the more impeccable and discerning your choices are using this energy, the more you will experience mental, spiritual, and physical well-being.
Become intimate with yourself so that you are aware of your own imperfection, weaknesses, and behavioral patterns and how they are triggered by certain circumstances, people, thoughts, and emotions. Practice looking within when you become reactive and see what needs to examined, released, or resolved. It’s healthy to pause, sit quietly, and let things be until you know what’s going on with you. Chances are once you’re aware of what is really there, it will take care of itself.
Love yourself and others passionately, patiently, and without reservation. Practice loving kindness and non-judgment especially with yourself. Offer loving feedback when permitted and speak from your heart. The more you forgive yourself, the more you will find it easier to forgive others. Forgiveness frees you from the past and opens the energetic space for you to create a better future.
Finally, trust yourself in connection with your source. Invest in your being rather than any external circumstances. Observe and listen to others, respect their points of view, and sort out what works for you and what doesn’t. Remember to always check any information with your heart and that information is just information unless it resonates with what you know to be true for you. Use it to guide yourself to better and more meaningful choices.
