“Tapping into the potential of your spirit is what enables us to manifest miracles.” —Deepak Chopra
Our spiritual resilience makes it possible not only to endure hardship and suffering, but to use any challenging situation for spiritual growth and transcend even the most devastating circumstances in our lives. When we can rise above whatever is happening in our lives, we increase our compassion for others.
Spiritual resilience involves connecting to a divine energy source greater than ourselves. The spirit, a vital link between the physical plane and the soul, interacts with and animates an otherwise lifeless existence. It is the channel of information which expresses through our hearts and guides our lives. Put simply, when we are in tune with our spirits, we feel more alive.
Spiritual resilience was natural to us as young children. Open and optimistic, we trusted our innate ability to transcend physical circumstances because we knew our truth through our open hearts regardless of those circumstances. However, as we began concerning ourselves more and more with the mundane events of daily life, we lost both the connection to our spirits and the trust that we could rise above difficult situations. As a result, life became problematic, and we started feeling stuck and depressed.
When you tap into your spiritual resilience, you gain the perspective to accept any situation, no matter how difficult or painful, as an opportunity for personal transformation. You trust that your spirit is stronger than any situation you can face, and view problems as stepping-stones for change rather than merely as obstacles. This helps you remain open and flexible as daily events unfold. When you are caught in a traffic jam, hear that the stock market has taken a major downturn, or discover you have a life-threatening illness, you can pause and choose to remain spiritually detached from the outcome. As a channel of spiritual information, you can recognize the responsibility you have for creating your reality, while simultaneously giving yourself the freedom to invite miracles into your life.
One such miracle occurred when my daughter, Alex and I were on the way to the airport traveling, to New Orleans. We were celebrating her upcoming graduation from medical school with a “girls trip.” I called for the Lyft car early giving us a little extra time before our flight. As we got into the car, I blessed our travels and everyone we would encounter along the way.
In the backseat cocoon of the SUV, Alex and I were excitedly chatting away about our trip. Our driver was focused on road and we felt safe. Until, I heard Alex yell….”Oh my God, we’re going to crash.” In that split second as I turned my head, I saw the speeding car in front of us. My life flashed before me.
The other car sped through the red light and we hit it head on as we went through the intersection. After the accident and in a state of shock, I checked on my daughter. She had the wind knocked out of her from the seatbelt and was holding her chest but was Ok. I held her in my arms, grateful for both of us to be alive.
Alex’s recent medical training came in handy as she checked us and our driver out who miraculously was also shaken up, but unharmed. We were assisted out of the car by the paramedics and checked on the three young men in the other car. They were ok too. It felt surreal that this just happened especially when we saw the extent of the damage of the cars.
We looked at each other and knew that we had been divinely protected.
Our choices were to go to the trauma center, go home, or continue to the airport and make our flight. Knowing that we were banged and bruised, but not in any danger, we kept calm and carried on. We called for another Lyft and headed to the airport. Wouldn’t you know, the car we were picked up in was the exact same SUV that we had been in.
Later, as we stood in line to board our plane, I said to Alex, “We are not finished here yet. We both have healing contributions to make to our world.”
Spiritual resiliency is the foundation for being love, happiness, and peace in the world. The more we tune in to the guidance of our spirits, the more we are led to a spiritually attuned life. Because the inner wisdom spirit provides helps us to surmount daily problems, we waste less time and energy being anxious about life’s difficulties. The guidance of our spirits also allows us to respond rather than react to events, giving us greater peace of mind. And the guidance of our spirits lifts us up and out of our physical circumstances, giving us the enhanced perspective necessary to not only be masters of our destiny but ambassadors of love to others.

I also often get the feeling that the reason I have gotten this far mostly in one piece is because I’m not done doing what I came here to do yet!

What a powerful story Debra and example of how you live what you teach. I really love this reminder, “When you tap into your spiritual resilience, you gain the perspective to accept any situation, no matter how difficult or painful, as an opportunity for personal transformation.” I feel so deeply grateful for the spiritual lessons of my life and how opening to grace in those moments empowers me to transform the challenges into insight, wisdom and eventually blessings. Thank you so much for sharing your message of love and light!

Debra, I am so happy you and your daughter are alright! How frightening! Thankful that your daughter had that medical training-no head on collision was going to keep the two of you from celebrating!!!
